Hey homies.
The title of this post is what my girlfriend's god son, Christian. says instead of "picture" and "balloon." I feel he improved both words so why not make them the title of this pisker (but not banoon) related post?
So I tried posting my M drive piskers on snapfish instead of fickr. My family uses that site so i figured it would be more convenient for me to start there. It went well. Swimmingly, really. No problems or anything. Except I don't think snapfish has a feature to share with the public. You can invite others by e-mail but, aside form the invitations, i didn't see too many other sharing options. Also, as far as I could tell, it did not have the same search capabilities as flickr, meaning you couldn't just pop in the name of a tag and it would give you a list of pictures related to that tag. Which means you also wouldn;t be able to search for the most popular tags, most interesting, most recently used, whatever. I don't know. maybe my fam needs to reconsider their site choice...
That's about it for me. I will try to end with three interesting things going on in my life now. ok. Starting, here: I'm reading Ginsberg's "Howl and other poems" all the way through for the first time in my life. I'm looking forward to dragon boat action next month. I hope I get to see tom waits play a show in st louis when i visit my sister there. And I'm loving skateboarding. I wish i could go do it right now.
There. that's four mildly interesting things. You get what you pay for?

wiki wiki woo woo
SO wiki's are prett y dope.
I found an entry about racine...a rather lengthy one, really, i thought. which is kind of cool...some people have put alot of work into making it...and yes indeed, there was a link to our library. YES!
This week's excercises were pleasant, low key, not alot of work. I feel i could benefit from creating wiki's personally, probably. I'm not sure what the library would use one for, but i would love to hear other people's thoughts on it and i'll think aboput it in the meantime.
OK, that's enough staring at a screen for me for one day. I'm glad this week went by without me having any major errors and i will be thinking about creating my own personal blog or wiki for personal uses until next time,

Success with the calendar!
Ok...good news ya'll-
I was able to access the google calendar link this week and had a pretty easy time navigating things. Google calendars seems pretty friendly but, as i've said before about these things, i don't really yet forsee me using this much. I just don't see a place in my life where this would make things more convenient, rather than less. However, I can see how it would do that for others and i would much rather have the knowledge to use it and not need it than need it and...you get the point.
A sort of post script- Between jonathan, melissa and I, we've realized that some of the computers in the library just aren't able to produce the same AIT pages as others, which was probably why i wasn't able to get the video link last week. This morning, we looked at a computer in the adult reference back office and it had all the videos and podcasts available form the website while, at the very same time, we had a computer downstairs that offered none of them at all. I assume this is some sort of troubleshooting tactic so that shelvers and pages arten't just downstairs watching you tube all day, which makes sense. However, this, for me, brings up a bigger problem: the fact that, unless you have a personal computer at the library here, your options are incredibly limited technology-wise. It makes one feel a little annoying to keep asking others to use their personal computers...and those people shouldn't necessarily have to offer their resources up to us either. That's their private space with their private information. Since I do some programming here, I'm constantly taking much more time to do very simple task such as access a document, print out a poster, create something in microsoft publisher, etc. So many of the computers have so many different voids in capability. Neither the circ computers nor the computer lab computers can access a usb key (nor many of the public terminals), the circ computers can't access microsoft publisher...Becky has been EXTREMEMLY generous in letting me use her computer for programmin purposes, but even her computer rejects my usb key (i don't kow if it's that way across the board). This is costing the library money because, seriously, I've had issues where something that should take me a mere five minutes or less turns into an hour ordeal and then that's another hour on my time sheet. I'm spending more time on AIT today because a YSD reference computer couldn't access the video link last week and that cuts into time i could've been shelving or pick listing. I know I'm not offering any creative solutions for this...I guess I would just suggest getting all of the computers up to the same high functioning capability, which is awfully optimistic. But regardless, we'll be paying for it in all sorts of different ways until they are. And even if i am just complaining, isn't that what blogging is all about?
Ok, i'm done with the past now. i have to catch myself up to the present. Thanks to jill and melissa and everyone for all your help so far. Here i come week 6!

Jill knocks my socks off
Hey rplers,
Just publicly thanking Jill for her helpful comments after I leave up my blogs o confusion. Because of you, Jill, I feel I have successfully been able to "mark all as read" in myu reader and start from scratch now, kind of. I'm still not in love with the interface...it still feels a little cluttered...but i'm sure one just gets used to it in time. especially if you actually start to see the benefits of having a reader--which of course i have not yet because i haven't kept up with it--but i'll keep ya'll up to date on my progress embracing the technology.

the missing link
No seriously, the link to the google calender tutorial video was no longer available when I tried to use it. A white script appeared at the top of the page that said it was no longer available. I guess youtube did away with it? So, alas, again I am left a big dumb dumby. I go shelve now.
What's up docs?
This title I feel encapsulates one of the biggest reasons I'm prejudiced against blogs, I think, which is because I feel that--while many blogs are used for cool purposes that i much appreciate--still primarily i feel they're used as venues for attention-starved weirdos to just showcase how clever they are...which, of course, is always "not very." My case being no different.
So the googie googie doc docs seem pretty neat. However, I was unable to locate the slideshow that the ait posting mentioned and also saw no "revision" option and so was unable to view past versions of our document. Still though, I highly doubt these are symptoms of anything more than user error (or at least user ignorance) and hope a kind shepherd will generously show me the way sometime soon.
Ok. two blog postings in one day is too much work for me. Give me a raise and send me home early!
yeah right.
love,

Rss feeds
yo homies
so, as usual, I have no idea what I'm doing really. I believe i have signed up for ten rss feeds...that much i think i was successful with...but i don't really know what i'm doing with it from there. It's just incredibly cluttered, I have about 300 new headlines or whatever to review. That of course isn't going to happen so I'de just kind of like to reset it so my feed just recognizes new posts to pop up from now forward. Also, the screen set up that I'm working with is pretty bunk. I don't know if I'm stuck with that or if there's a way to change it that I'm just not aware of. It's very cramped and I can only read a few sentences at a time. Oh whatever shall I do?
So that's my whining for now...If anyone out there in TVland has suggestions, send them my way. But since I'm obviously a little slow with the electronics, maybe you should come to me personally and walk me through it if you ever have time.
I await my my magical prince to save me and sweep me off my feet,
