And presto!...instant messenger : )
So I've done this before, only through our e-mail system. I dig it. I see the utility to it, though I can't quite relate to why people use it so frequently, in most cases.
In the case of working on some project or another online, you have a question and you know someone else is online who could answer it, IMing seems pretty fantastic to me. Just the other day I was able to IM john AND pat to ask how to get to the refence desk homepage...they were in the same building as me, but it definitely saved me a few minutes of walking back and forth to talk to them.
However, just conversating with others through IMing seems like something I will never find appealling. First of all, whenever I'm online it's usually because I'm working diligently on some matter of business or another and I'd rather not be interupted. So, unless there's a very good reason for it, I can see how IMing could become more of a nuisance than a help.
Today, I recieved an account for AIM and I also went for one through Meebo (and invited Jill as my buddy). I think what that david fella did with Meebo is super awesome and it seems to be a perfect example of how this technology can really improve people's lives, if applied creatively.
Ok. Happy 2nd semester ya'll. Glad to be back in the game.
love,
poo
